‘Revolutionising the fight against food waste'

Saasha Celestial-One, COO at Olio

On Tuesday 12 December, Saasha Celestial-One, co-founder of Olio, will deliver a presentation on ‘Revolutionising the fight against food waste’ for Highfield’s Improving Food Safety webinar series.

Saasha Celestial-One is the co-founder and chief operating officer (COO) of Olio, a free app that harnesses the power of mobile technology and the sharing economy to provide a revolutionary solution to food waste. Olio is empowered by more than 100,000 volunteers. Since 2016, 7 million people have shared over 110 million portions of food in 62 countries.

Before Olio, Saasha founded London’s first pay-as-you-go childcare provider, and prior to that she spent 13 years at Morgan Stanley, McKinsey and American Express. Saasha was named one of the UK’s ‘Coolest Female Founders’ by Business Insider, has an MBA from Stanford, is mum to a 10-year-old and is the proud daughter of hippy entrepreneurs.

Her presentation ‘Revolutionising the fight against food waste’ will open with the latest facts about food waste, food poverty and the impact of the cost-of-living crisis in the UK. After this, it will move onto:

• an overview of Olio - a unique solution for the redistribution of surplus food, and a tech-for-good company that connects businesses, volunteers and people in need, and distributes 2.5 million meals per month across 5,000 locations.

• testimonials from businesses, volunteers and recipients on their experiences of using the app.

• the innovative way Olio approaches food safety, how food safety guidelines are followed and how training is conducted.

•what’s next for Olio, and how businesses can play their part in reducing food waste.

After the presentation there will be a short break followed by a live Q&A conducted by the Improving Food Safety webinar series host, Sterling Crew, President of the Institute of Food Science and Technology.

Attending live will entitle you to a digital certificate worth 1.5 CPD points.
