The challenges of catering at the FIFA World Cup 2022
On Tuesday 16 May, June Steenekamp of Didactix Culinary & Hospitality Consultants will join Highfield to deliver a presentation on her experience of catering at the FIFA World Cup 2022.
For over 20 years, June worked in the culinary industry for contract catering companies as a catering and project manager, before starting her own company, Didactix, in 2004 specialising in culinary and hospitality training and development. While managing the company, she regularly judges culinary competitions. She was a skills expert and judge for the South African WorldSkills cookery competitions. June has assisted many chefs and restaurant owners to implement food safety systems in their establishments, and was appointed as the HACCP manager for 2 stadiums at the FIFA World Cup 2022 held in Doha, Qatar.
Some topics to be covered during her presentation 'The challenges of catering at the FIFA World Cup 2022' on Tuesday 16 May will include:
• orientation at the stadiums and time constraints
• communication and language barriers with staff
• training food handlers in allergens and food safety
• food safety inspections by regulators and other contractors
• challenges such as management, security, supply chain, equipment and labelling
