Poisoned the Netflix Movie & ensuring food safety in the future

Coming soon... Bill Marler, attorney at Marler Clark, the food safety law firm, will join us live from Seattle (Washington) on Wednesday 27 September 15:30 - 17:00 BST for an exclusive Improving Food Safety webinar.

William (Bill) Marler began litigating foodborne illness cases in 1993 when he represented Brianne Kiner, the most seriously injured survivor of the historic Jack in the Box E. coli outbreak, in her landmark $15.6 million settlement with the company. The 2011 book Poisoned: The True Story of the Deadly E. coli Outbreak that Changed the Way Americans Eat by best-selling author Jeff Benedict, chronicles the Jack in the Box outbreak and the rise of Bill Marler as a food safety attorney.

Today, Bill is arguably the most prominent foodborne illness lawyer in America and a major force in food policy in the U.S. and around the world.

Jeff Benedict's book was recently adapted into a documentary titled Poisoned: The Dirty Truth About Your Food, directed by Stephanie Soechtig and premiered on Netflix on 2 August 2023.

The documentary examines the history and evolution of America’s food supply system, shares untold stories of the victims of notorious outbreaks and shines a spotlight on the high-profile criminal prosecutions for those responsible. The documentary makers ask the question: “How did we get to a place with 15 government agencies in charge of the country’s food, yet none of them can keep its citizens safe?”

During the webinar on Wednesday 27 September, Bill will deliver an inside account of the Netflix documentary, the impact of the movie globally and his thoughts on how we can ensure food safety in the future.

Following his presentation there will be a short break followed by a live Q&A conducted by the Improving Food Safety webinar series host, Sterling Crew, President of the Institute of Food Science and Technology.
